SWAG is pleased to share the open call for posters for the 1st Workshop on Neuromuscular Robotics, taking place on 1 October 2026 during IEEE/RSJ IROS 2026.

The workshop will feature SWAG representation through Dr Vasileios Trikalitis, Prof. Massimo Sartori and Dr Mohamed Irfan Refai from our partner University of Twente, alongside expert colleagues from leading international institutions, including Massachusetts Institute of Technology, The University of Tokyo and ETH Zurich.

The workshop will bring together researchers from neuroscience, biomechanics, robotics, bioengineering and human movement science to explore how advances in understanding the human neuromuscular system can inspire the next generation of intelligent and adaptive robots.

The programme will include invited talks, live demonstrations, poster sessions with flash presentations, Best Poster Awards and discussions on emerging challenges and future directions in the field.

Call for posters

Researchers, students and professionals are invited to submit a 1-page abstract presenting their latest work, preliminary results or innovative ideas.

Submissions are welcome on topics including:

  • Human neuromuscular system understanding and interfaces, including neural decoding, bionic reconstruction, musculoskeletal modelling and reinforcement learning approaches for human movement neuro-mechanics.
  • Platforms for neuro-muscular robotics, including robots actuated by artificial or biological muscles, biohybrid robotic systems, robotic bioreactors and robots for neuromuscular training.
  • Ethics and regulation, including the role of regulatory and ethical developments such as the EU AI Act in shaping neuromuscular robotic systems.

Accepted posters will be presented during the interactive poster session, with presenters also invited to give a short flash presentation. Best Poster Prizes will be awarded during the workshop.
